Where to find the model number on a dryer
Open the door and look on the rim around the opening, usually at the top. A few models put it on the side of the opening or on the back. Here's each brand's spot.

A dryer's label is one of the easier ones to find: open the door, look up at the frame above the opening, and it's usually there. If not, check the sides of the opening. Older and compact models sometimes put it on the back panel or the lower front.
Where the label usually is
Most dryers: open the door and look on the rim around the opening, usually at the top.

How to find and record the numbers
- 1. Make it safeRead the label with the door open; nothing to switch off. If you move the dryer, don't kink or crush the vent duct, and on a gas dryer, don't strain the gas line.
- 2. Look in the usual spot firstOpen the door and look on the rim around the opening, usually at the top.
- 3. Find the two numbersLook for the words Model (or M/N, Mod.) and Serial (or S/N, Ser.). The model is the product; the serial is your one unit.
- 4. Take a sharp photoUse the flashlight at an angle so the label doesn't glare, and get the whole label in the frame. A photo beats copying by hand: 0 and O, 1 and I, 5 and S are easy to mix up.
- 5. Keep it where you'll find itSave the photo with the appliance's name, or write both numbers on the receipt or in your home records.
Model number or serial number?
The model number names the product: every unit of that model shares it, and it's what you need for the manual, replacement parts and recall searches. The serial number is your one unit. Makers use it for warranty claims, and many build the date it was made into it, which is how you can tell an appliance's age without the receipt. Each maker uses its own code for the date, so look up your brand's pattern or ask the maker before you trust a guess.
What you'll use it for
The model number tells you whether the dryer is gas or electric if you're not sure, and the manual for your model covers the lint screen, the vent and what kind of duct it needs, which matters for safety. You'll also need it for a replacement lint screen, belt, door switch or heating element, and to check recalls.
If the label isn't there
Look on the back panel near the vent outlet, and on the lower front panel. Stacked washer-dryers may carry one label for both. If the dryer is in a closet, the back may only be visible with your phone's camera held behind it.
Questions people ask
Where is the model number on a Samsung dryer?
Samsung says to open the door and check the frame around it; on some models, there's a label on the back.
How can I tell if my dryer is gas or electric?
The label and manual say. You can also look behind it: a gas dryer has a gas line with a shutoff valve, and an electric dryer plugs into a large 240-volt outlet.
Where is the serial number on an LG dryer?
LG says to open the door: a silver label is on the panel around the opening, usually at the top.
Snap the label once, and it's on file for good
Plumworth's "Where's the serial?" shows the spot for your brand on a drawing. Take one photo and it reads the brand, model, serial and the year it was made, finds that model's manual, and checks it against government recalls every day.
